SFU off to the GNAC Conference Championships for the first time in program history!
March 6, 2019

We are off to Bellingham for the GNAC Championships!

For the first time in our young NCAA history, we are going to the Conference Championships!  It was an extremely close playoff race in the last three weeks with four teams fighting for the final two playoff spots.  In the end, our wins over nationally ranked St. Martin's (#10) and Northwest Nazarene (#24) were the deciding factor in getting the berth. To see the playoff picture and final standings go HERE.

On Saturday, March 2nd we celebrated Senior Night for our final home game of the season against Jim Shaw's Western Oregon team.  It was a defensive battle on both ends of the floor as we slowed down their dribble penetration and they made it tough for us to get going inside with Julian, Jas and Graham.  Post-game we found out Western Washington had lost against Concordia and indeed we were in.  It was a nice way for us to end our season and celebrate some very good basketball.  Most importantly, I want to thank our three graduating Seniors - Bowen Bakken, Bongani Moyo & Jordan Muir-Keung....more below.

Lastly, we want to congratulate Sophomore Julian Roche who was selected to the GNAC All-Conference 2nd team yesterday.  He is having a terrific year for our program and we expect even more this week!

We hope to see you in Bellingham this week!

Thank You to Our Seniors > Bowen, Bongani & Jordan

All three of our seniors have made a big imprint on our program.  Bowen who is a red shirt senior, has perservered through multiple injuries, has dealt with mono twice and continues to battle through has shown strong leadership throughout.  Bowen Bakken who will complete his Bachelor's of Arts in Criminology this spring. Bongani Moyo was originally a walk-on international student.  Bon has earned he was onto the roster and become a big part of our rotation the last two seasons. He is graduating with his Bachelors of Business Administration concentrating in Marketing & Finance from the Beedie School of Business.  Jordan who transferred from Bellevue College in Washington has been a solid player for two seasons.  Jordan has played the point and the off-guard position with a quiet leadership quality and keeps his teammates at ease with his coolness under pressure. Jordan will complete his double minor in Communications &  Sociology in 2019-20.

JULIAN ROCHE > GNAC All-Conference Team

Julian had a very good first year at Simon Fraser leading us in rebounding and scoring for the majority of the year.  All five of our starters were in double-digits for most of the season and Michael Provenzano was the conference assist leader for the year.  It is nice to see some recognition for our program and we congrulate Julian on an very good first season at SFU!
