Box Score Anchorage, AK – The Simon Fraser University men’s basketball team are headed home after losing the second game of their road trip through Alaska, 107-77 to the 23rd ranked team in NCAA Division II basketball, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.

“We played uninspired, bad basketball,” said Head Coach James Blake. “We need some senior leadership to start kicking in this year. We have a very talented team but we have to defend as a team and start sharing the ball the way we did during the first semester.”

Justin Cole (Los Angeles, CA) led his team with 24 points in the contest, one of three players to reach double digits as Taylor Dunn (Vancouver, WA) had 16 and David Gebru(Seattle, WA) scored 15 in the game.

Cole was a perfect six for six from the free throw line.

Ibrahim Appiah (Montreal, QC) led Simon Fraser in rebounds with six while Sango Niang(Paris, France) led his team and all players in assists with nine to go along with his nine points in the game.

Travis Thompson and Kyle Fossman led Alaska Anchorage in points with 22 each, Teancumm Stafford led the Seawolves with 10 rebounds while Brian McGill, Thompson and Colton Lauwers each had four assists.

While the Clan and Seawolves each shot 41 percent in the first half, Alaska Anchorage caught fire in the second half shooting 64 percent from the field while SFU shot 44.

The Clan bench outscored the home side 33-21 while Alaska Anchorage edged the Clan 16-12 in points off of turnovers and 30-26 on points in the paint.

Alaska Anchorage opened the scoring, leading 3-0 early on before Elijah Matthews(Washington, DC) tied it for the Clan with a three ball but the home side would lead the rest of the game after a three from Thompson made is 6-3 from the Sewaolves.

Trailing by 14 at the half, the Clan would cut the deficit to 10 in the early moments of the second half but that was as close as Simon Fraser would get, as the top ranked Seawolves pulled away and built their lead over the final minutes of the game, taking the 30 point victory.

The loss drops the Clan’s record to 7-5 on the season and 0-4 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

SFU will be back in action with a single game this week when they travel to Bellingham, WA to visit their cross border rivals and another ranked opponent, the 15th ranked Western Washington Vikings.
