Five Things to Watch for at the Vancouver Showcase

Vancouver, B.C. - Years in the making, some of the NCAA’s best teams will descend on Vancouver this week for the inaugural Vancouver Showcase. Announced in 2015, the tournament has been a highly anticipated event in the Vancouver Basketball Community since. With the four (4) Men’s teams arriving this week for games from November 18-21 followed by the Women’s tournament on November 22-24 here are the Top Five things to look forward too:


1. NCAA COMPETITION - With locals dubbing the tournament ‘March Madness in November’, the Vancouver Showcase is bringing four (4) Top Men’s NCAA Teams and eight (8) Top Women’s NCAA Teams for the very first NCAA Basketball tournament in Canada.

2. HOMECOMING - The lone BC player in the Vancouver Showcase is Louise Forsyth (Langley) who is in her Sophomore season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. After a standout career with the Brookswood Bobcats where she was the BC Player of the Year in her senior season after averaging 31 points, 14 points, and 5 rebounds per outing. Louise has also spent time on the Canadian National Team. Look for Gonzaga to hold a homecourt advantage throughout the tournament with friends and family stopping at the Vancouver Convention Centre to support Louise

3. DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will land in Vancouver as defending National Champions after the late game heroics and game winning shot in last years National Final by Arike Ogunbowale. This years Notre Dame team features four players curently on the 2019 WNBA Mock-Draft. Look for Arike Ogunbowale, Brianna Turner, Jessica Shephard, Marina Mabrey to make noise while in Vancouver.

4. JELLY FAM - To start, what is Jelly Fam? Essentially, ‘Jelly’ is a lay-up scored with style and flair compared to a regular finish. With origins in NYC, Started by Isaiah Washington who wasn’t able to dunk at the time, started a movement embraced by youth across North America and the world. Isaiah Washington and the Minnesota Gophers are bring starting with their game against Texas A&M on Sunday November 18th.

5. THE VENUE - Playing under the sails of Canada Place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, the entire spectator experience is being built from scratch. With an exclusive Vancouver Showcase Court, custom made bleachers, and specially produced lighting and sound the venue of the inaugural Vancouver Showcase will be spectacular.
